Whenever LinkedIn® launches a new feature, the first conversation is usually about how to use it.
How do you turn it on?
What buttons do you press?
Will it increase your reach?
Those questions matter, but they rarely tell us why LinkedIn built the feature in the first place.
Collaborative Posts are a good example.
At first glance, they appear to be another content format. Multiple people can now publish the same post under their respective profiles or Company Pages, creating a shared conversation that reaches multiple audiences.
But I believe the bigger story lies elsewhere.
A Platform Built Around Professional Relationships
LinkedIn has always been different from other social networks.
Its purpose isn’t simply to help people publish content. It’s to help professionals demonstrate expertise, build trusted relationships and create opportunities through those connections.
Collaborative Posts extend that idea.
Rather than simply saying you know someone, you’re choosing to create something together. The collaboration becomes part of the content itself.
That is a much stronger professional signal than a mention, a tag or even a recommendation.
Visibility Is Only Part of the Story
Many early discussions have focused on the potential increase in reach.
That will undoubtedly attract attention.
But if increased visibility becomes the only objective, the feature will quickly lose credibility.
The organisations and individuals who benefit most are likely to be those using Collaborative Posts to showcase genuine partnerships, shared projects, client successes and complementary expertise.
In other words, collaboration should amplify expertise, not manufacture it.
Credibility Is Becoming More Visible
One of the biggest shifts we’ve seen over the past year is LinkedIn’s increasing emphasis on evidence.
Profiles demonstrate experience.
Posts demonstrate knowledge.
Recommendations demonstrate trust.
Now Collaborative Posts introduce another layer of professional evidence by making real working relationships more visible.
Instead of simply telling people that you work well with others, you can demonstrate it.
A Reflection of LinkedIn’s Changing Purpose
I’ve written previously that LinkedIn is evolving beyond networking and recruitment.
It is becoming part of the information layer used by both people and AI to understand professional expertise.
That means the signals we create on the platform matter more than ever.
Collaborative Posts fit naturally into that evolution.
They don’t simply help people publish together.
They provide another way to demonstrate expertise, reinforce credibility and show how professional knowledge is developed through collaboration rather than in isolation.
We’re Still Learning
Like many new LinkedIn features, Collaborative Posts are still being rolled out globally and there is much we don’t yet know.
At Link∙Ability, we’ve been testing the feature from its earliest release and documenting what we’ve learned as it evolves.
We’ll continue sharing practical guidance, observations and strategic insights as more professionals gain access.
Because the real opportunity isn’t simply learning how to use a new feature.
It’s understanding what that feature tells us about where LinkedIn is heading next.
